Natural Wonders & Beaches

Endless sandy beaches, crystalline waters shimmering under the sun, and the mythical Samaria Gorge await your discovery.

Balos Lagoon and Beach

Tucked away at the northwestern tip of Crete, Balos Lagoon is a world-renowned spectacle of turquoise and azure waters. Formed between Cape Gramvousa and the island of Agria Gramvousa, this lagoon dazzles with its shimmering white and pink sands—the unique rosy hue created by countless crushed seashells.

The journey to Balos is part of the adventure: you can reach it via a rugged track that offers breathtaking panoramic views from above, or by boat from Kissamos Port. The waters are shallow and warm, making it a paradise for families. Beyond its ethereal beauty, Balos is a protected nature reserve, providing a sanctuary for rare bird species and the endangered Cretan wild goat, the Kri-Kri.

Even during the busy high season, the raw, untamed majesty of the landscape remains an unforgettable experience.

Elafonissi Beach

Famous for its iconic pink sand and crystalline, shallow waters, Elafonisi is more than just a beach—it is a unique island sanctuary. Accessible by wading through a knee-deep lagoon, this destination feels like a portal to a tropical paradise on the southwest coast of Crete.

Part of an environmentally protected area, Elafonisi boasts a fragile ecosystem of shifting dunes and rare Sea Daffodils (Pancratium maritimum). The striking contrast between the rosy shoreline, the turquoise sea, and the deep blue sky creates a breathtaking canvas. Its vast, calm shallows make it exceptionally family-friendly, offering a safe and relaxing environment for children. Whether you prefer the convenience of the organized areas or the secluded coves of the islet, Elafonisi offers a magical escape into nature’s finest colors.

Samaria Gorge

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Samaria Gorge is one of Europe’s longest canyons and Crete’s premier hiking destination. This 16 km trek (approximately 5-7 hours) leads you through a majestic landscape of soaring cliffs, ancient cypress and pine forests, and a rugged riverbed that descends toward the Libyan Sea. The highlight of the trail is the “Iron Gates”, a dramatic pass where the canyon walls narrow to just 4 meters while towering 300 meters high.

This is a challenging yet deeply rewarding full-day excursion that requires sturdy footwear and stamina. As a unique sanctuary for the endangered Kri-Kri wild goat, the gorge offers a rare glimpse into Cretan ecology. Open from May to October, the journey concludes with a refreshing dip in the crystal waters of Agia Roumeli, followed by a scenic ferry ride back.

Seitan Limania Beach

Seitan Limania, whose name translates to “The Devil’s Harbors,” is a dramatically narrow, fjord-like beach that offers an adventurous and visually stunning experience. Located on the Akrotiri peninsula, just a short drive from our suites, access involves a steep and somewhat challenging rocky descent. The reward is a secluded cove with incredibly clear, crisp waters, framed by towering, jagged cliffs.

The beach is wild and untouched, so visitors should come prepared with their own supplies. Its unique geography creates a breathtaking zigzag of blue water cutting through the stone, a sight that has made it a favorite spot for photographers and thrill-seekers alike. The view from the top of the trail, looking down at the winding bay, is as spectacular as the beach itself.

Falassarna Beach

Located on the western coast of Crete, Falassarna is a vast expanse of soft white sand and dazzling azure waters, consistently voted among the top beaches in Greece and Europe. Comprised of five consecutive beaches, it ensures a sense of freedom and space even during the peak of summer.

Falassarna is most famous for its spectacular sunsets, where the sun dips directly into the sea over the distant horizon, making it the ultimate late-afternoon destination. The main beach is perfectly organized with sunbeds, traditional tavernas, and water sports. For those seeking a touch of culture, the archaeological remains of Ancient Falassarna—including a Hellenistic tower and a rock-cut throne—lie just behind the shore, blending ancient history with stunning natural beauty.
